Jacquelyne Thoni Howard is an inaugural Professor of Practice at the Connolly Alexander Institute for Data Science. She earned a Ph.D. in U.S. History from Fordham University, an M.A. in History from the University of San Diego, and a B.A. in History with a minor in Secondary Education from Loyola University New Orleans. After completing her undergraduate degree, Thoni Howard became a certified secondary teacher and gained extensive professional experience in instructional design and educational technology.

As a historian, Thoni Howard’s teaching, research, and mentoring work centers on critical data studies, data literacy, surveillance studies, the history of empires and data, and women and technology. She also focuses on the cultural and social implications of data use and the application of equitable data practices in the digital humanities and data education spaces.

She is a founding editor of the nationally recognized guide Feminist Pedagogy for Teaching Online and has written about applying feminist practices while convening Digital Humanities Labs and communities.
